Escaping Reality

Photography for me is not just an art form, it’s a language which has helped me communicate what I really wanted to say.

For as long as I can remember, I have been an introvert. Talking to people has always been a hurdle for me. This is when I first got introduced to photography and trust me, it was like a breath of fresh air!

To master any art form there’s a learning curve. Photography is no different. I believe that there’s no art form in the world that can be mastered. I am always learning. Photography to me is not just about clicking good pictures, but also about telling stories and creating memories which you can relive for years to come.

In my 1.5 years of doing photography professionally for weddings, events, portraits I realised that professional photography is not for me. It had become a business and I didn’t have the same creativity that I first had when I started. I like to take my own time during shots, deciding the locations, the people. In the commercial world of weddings, you are always bound by time and people’s expectations that your own creativity & personal style gets lost somewhere in the middle.

Currently, I have stopped commercial photography and I’m back to taking pictures for myself. I’m back to my first love. I can now have ample amounts of time to decide the shots without expectations from anyone else but myself.

Photography has given me a reason to travel. Travelling has changed my perspective on life. It has given me a chance to create stories like never before.

I’ve been travelling across India in order to satisfy this objective. It has changed me. It’s my escape from reality and with the present lifestyle of which we are a part of, I see photography as a breather.

I think everyone should have a passion to do something. Something which isn’t related to your work, which doesn’t make you money, but which lets you take your own time, makes you live in the moment. Basically, something that’s a distraction from reality.
